Pearls need humidity and should be stored in a cloth bag to keep them from drying out or becoming scratched. You may gently wipe pearls with a soft damp cloth to clean them. Basic precautions for gemstones are to avoid excessive impact against hard surfaces, extreme temperature changes and contact with perfumes, cosmetics and household cleaners. Ultrasonic cleaning is not safe for many gemstones. A soft damp cloth for gently cleaning your gemstones is highly recommended.
Sterling silver does require cleaning from time to time. Gently rub the silver with a nonabrasive silver polish, avoiding your gemstones. Then rinse the silver thoroughly in warm water and dry carefully. Storing silver in an airtight container will reduce natural tarnishing.
14 karat gold filled is an excellent alternative to 14k gold that allows for jewelry to be both affordable and beautiful. Gold filled jewelry can last a lifetime and should not tarnish. If needed, gently polish with a soft jeweler’s cloth or wash in a mild soap with tepid water, and dry with a soft cloth.
